ABOUT THE ARTIST
Daniel Roy Sharples
Born in 1988, Daniel Roy Sharples grew up in Preston. After training in Illustration at UCLAN and a PGCE in Applied Art & Design at Edge Hill University, he went into education, teaching for four years in Hong Kong. He is now Head of Art & Design at a Lancashire secondary school, while also dedicating time to developing his own practice and presence as an emerging artist.
Daniel works primarily in oils. His subject matter is inspired by the places and people around him; from grimy inner cities to rural landscapes and all the faces he meets along the way. Plein air painting is increasingly becoming his main passion, and he can regularly be spotted painting on the streets of his hometown Preston, as well as further afield in cities such as Edinburgh and Hong Kong.
Daniel’s work has been exhibited in various galleries around the country, including the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, where his painting ‘Bridesmaid’ recently won the Dry Red Press Award, the Royal Society of British Artists annual exhibition, and his work has been featured in the King House Art magazine.
